
Jack Grogan is a champion when it comes to mathematics. Grogan, an eighth grader at Clinton Junior High competed in the district seventh and eighth grade mathematics competition on Mar. 4, 2011. He won first place in the eighth grade division.
The competition was held on the Raymond campus of Hinds Community College. The competition is sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Middle and junior high schools in the Hinds Community College district are invited each year to send their top two seventh and eighth grade students to the competition. The students take a standardized written test.
Trophies are awarded to the teams that accumulate the most points on the exams. Students participating came from Clinton Junior High, Vicksburg Junior High, Warren Central, Chastain Middle School, Carver Middle School, and Pearl Junior High. The state competition will be held on April 2, 2011 at Mississippi College, where the first and second place winners will compete.
